Youth Incentive Program

Empowering the Next Generation of Ham Radio Operators

At the Hot Springs Amateur Radio Club, we believe in inspiring curiosity and fostering the skills of tomorrow’s ham radio enthusiasts. That’s why we’re proud to introduce our Youth Incentive Program, designed to help young individuals under the age of 18 take their first step into the exciting world of amateur radio—without financial barriers holding them back.

What the Program Covers

  • FCC Application Fee: We’ll take care of the one-time $35 FCC application fee for new candidates under 18 who pass their first amateur radio exam, administered through the ARRL Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (VEC).  ARRL Ham Radio License Manual 5th Edition is provided, valued at $35.
  • Exam Session Fee Waived: On test day, candidates under 18 won’t need to worry about the usual $20 exam session fee charged by ARRL VEC teams—it’s completely waived for them.
  • Club Membership: Once licensed, young operators receive a one-year club membership, valued at $20, at no cost. They’ll join a vibrant community ready to help them grow in the hobby.
  • A Radio to Get Started: To help them get on the air right away, we’ll equip new operators with a beginner-friendly handheld radio, setting them up for success from day one.

Why Ham Radio?

Ham radio isn’t just a hobby; it’s a gateway to technology, communication skills, and community service. Whether it’s building a career in technology, supporting emergency communications, or simply making friends across the globe, ham radio opens doors.
